Leading piling & foundation contractors Van Elle, have just completed a piling contract worth over €100,000 for Pierse Contracting at the Euro Business park in Cork.

Since the successful opening of their Irish office in Limerick this summer, Van Elle have been steadily building up their client base winning this contract from Pierse Contracting, recently listed as the third largest contractor in Ireland.

The popular industrial estate in Little Island, Cork is expanding and Pierse are building two new industrial units on the site.

The contract was for the design and installation of 120 No, 400mm diameter Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles to 20m deep through the local sand and gravel soil conditions. Now the installation is complete a variety of pile tests will be carried out including static, dynamic and integrity tests.

The pile design used CFA piles as they were the most suitable pile type for the ground conditions, they also produce less noise and vibration, making them safer to use near existing structures as well as being better neighbours to local residents. The Soilmec SF50 was chosen from the fleet of rigs to carry out the works.

They also offered Pierse a fixed price per pile, rather than per metre which ensures that if piles have to go to additional depths, no extra costs are incurred.

The programme started on 5th November and ran ahead of time, being completed in only five days instead of nine. The job ran like clockwork, with piles being installed to maximum depths and up to 500m due being installed per day. The pile testing will started on 19th November and lasted for two days.
