Project Overview

The huge 60,000sqm site used to be the home of the Boots factory and is now earmarked for a large-scale residential development. The site is a joint venture between Bellway and George Wimpey.

Following on from the site investigation we carried out two years ago we identified the need for a full-scale land remediation programme due to mine workings. The design was a blanket grid of drilled holes spaced at 4.5m across the whole site which would then be injected with a mixed fluid grout.

There were also mineshafts on site which had to be treated and capped.

Result

From the initial site investigation through to the execution of works we guided the client through the entire process. The project was a six month programme with up to six rigs on site at any one time.

The scope of works was huge which meant that our project management and on site management had to be at its best to ensure the smooth running of the programme. The winter weather tried its best to interfere with the schedule, but due to our combined team effort with the client we worked through the rain and stuck to the schedule.

Technical Information

We injected a 12:1mixed fluid PFA and OPC grout Rig: Soilmec 400
