Open Site Piling

We provide a wide range of piling methods and techniques for all new build developments, major structural projects, open site industrial contracts and large commercial refurbishments, working with national developers and contractors, local authorities and civil engineers.

The methods we use include augered, bored, driven and drilled piles.

We also design and carry out restricted access piling.

Our fleet of rigs includes CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) rigs weighing between 25 and 70 tonnes capable of installing piles up to 28m long. Our precast concrete driven rigs weighing between 40 and 55 tonnes are capable of installing piles up to 39m from 15m single length sections. You can see our technical data sheets here or watch the movie of piling case studies here.

Augered and Bored Piles

CFA Piles are suitable for most soil conditions and being virtually vibration free, are ideal for working in close proximity to existing buildings. We can achieve capacities in excess on 2400kN. Bored piles of various diameters are able to penetrate a multitude of soil conditions using rotary percussion techniques to achieve pile capacities in particularly difficult ground conditions.

  • Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) 300mm to 900mm diameter
  • Contiguous and secant piled retaining walls up to 750mm diameter
  • Hard/soft secant piled walls up to 750mm diameter
  • Bored piles
  • Van Elle have now introduced Auger Displacement Piling to their range of piling systems. This system of piling is highly effective in non cohesive and weak cohesive ground conditions and is highly effective on contaminated sites due to the lack of spoil generated. The ADP system offers all the advantages of CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) without the spoil or the mess. In the right ground conditions it may also reduce the length of the pile due to the increased skin friction generated by the installation method.

The system is available on all the Van Elle fleet of rigs and in common sizes to suit your project.

    Driven Piles

Driven piles can be used in a wide range of soil conditions, are quick to install and produce no spoil. We use fully reinforced, precast concrete piles manufactured under factory conditions. The piles can be extended using a mechanical interlocking joint. We can achieve capacities in excess of 1000kN.

  • Precast concrete 200mm square to 350mm square
  • Steel tube
  • Steel H-section
  • Bottom driven thin wall steel
  • Drilled Piles

Drilled piles can be used to provide rock sockets or to overcome obstructions within the ground.

  • Odex/rotary percussive up to 275mm diameter
