Project Overview

Sunderland Housing Group wanted to develop a site of affordable housing for the local community. Due to the nature of the project the development had to be both time and cost efficient - the developer wanted the houses up as soon as possible.

We were asked to cost the piling and groundbeams for the site, and taking into account the client's needs for speed and cost efficiencies we scoped the project using our unique Smartfoot® pre-cast modular foundations system. Hand in hand with this we suggested the use of our Vemech® pre-cast piles.

We not only installed the piles and groundbeams, but we designed them too.

Result

There were 58 plots on the site and we installed 600 No piles and around 2,500m of groundbeams. The job was completed as per the programme, within eight weeks. The rain didn't stop the lifts of the Smartfoot® system as it is totally dry and therefore non-weather dependent.

The scope of works turned out to be a great example of off-site construction methods. Both the piles and groundbeams were manufactured off-site to site-specific designs. What followed was a clean site, accurate installation and fast completion.

The development is due for final completion in 2008.

Technical Information
We installed 580 No Vemech pre-cast concrete piles, measuring 200mm square to a depth of 5m. 2,385m of ground beams were laid.
