There is nothing more important to Van Elle than the health and safety of its staff and every precaution is taken to protect both them and fellow contractors on site.
Our experienced and highly qualified safety team, undertake regular internal audits of our processes and procedures to ensure they are as comprehensive as possible highlighting any areas for improvement. As members of all of the industry's best known certification and qualification schemes including CHAS, Construction Line, SSIP, SMAS, Link-Up, Building Confidence, Safemark and Safe Contractor, our systems are under constant review by external bodies promoting best practice. We are also regularly audited, we are Network Rail Plant Operations Scheme (POS) providers and are active members of both the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) and the British Drilling Association (BDA).
In recent years, we have implemented a safety campaign, 'Think Safety, Act Safely'. This has resulted in an increase in the reporting of hazards and 'near misses' of more than 2400%. This proactive approach has improved awareness and helped prevent accidents, not only to our site staff, but also to members of the public, engineers and to other contractors working alongside us.
Each of our engineers, managers and directors are tasked with carrying out at least 2 unannounced site audits per month, the results of which are linked to our site team's performance bonus'. Each member of our health and safety team also spends 2-3 days per week on sites.
Van Elle are an accredited CITB training provider, delivering the Health & Safety Awareness, Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) courses. We are also a CSCS Platinum Award holder with 96% of our staff holding the relevant card.
As the largest independent geotechnical engineering contractor in the UK, it is our duty and priority to ensure the safety of our employees whilst at work.
