Celebrating Our Apprentices

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week. In recognition of this, we’re celebrating our apprentices beginning their careers here at Van Elle.

We’re proud to support, train and develop our apprentices in order to give them the skills to success in their future careers. We offer apprenticeships across all aspects of the business.

Below we’d like to introduce you to just some of our current apprentices, who have given their thoughts and experiences of how being an apprentice at Van Elle is helping them to develop their career:

Plant Fitter Apprenticeship Level 2 / Joined Van Elle in April 2016

How do you see your career progressing?

Well, my apprenticeship will run through the remainder of 2019 and for the majority of 2020. Once I’ve completed all my requirements, I’d like to move into the Plant Fitter role full-time. This is an exciting job where I’ll have my own van and go out to attend site for servicing and breakdown requirements.

Plant Fitter Apprenticeship Level 2 / Joined Van Elle in July 2015

What does your day-to-day look like?

I’m usually available to work 7 days a week, and work solely with our Rail Division. It’s my job to service the machines whether it’s on or off site, this is in line with railway safety standards and is a crucial role with Van Elle’s work on the Rail. I’m usually on-call just in case there is a breakdown on one of our rigs

What are the most valuable skills you've learnt?

I’ve learned many new skills since beginning the apprenticeship with Van Elle. Working as part of a team has been important, whilst ensuring accurate data entry and working on projects has all been new to me. I’ve also learned a lot about the external factors which affect our business such as Brexit and new European data regulations such as GDPR.

What are the most valuable skills you've learnt?

The main skill I’ve learned is working as part of a team. So when we have a rig which needs to be fixed today, and out the door tomorrow, we all pull together to get it actioned.
