My work consists of reacting to situations that occur and solving them. I set up equipment for new starters and liaise with other IT staff such as programmers to produce new systems/

implement new systems.

Why did you choose a career in construction?

I chose a career in IT because I’ve always had an interest in tech since I used my first computer at the age of three. I didn’t choose to work in the construction industry, but it’s definitely a great industry to work in and I’d certainly recommend a career in construction.

What is one thing you’ve learnt about the industry, which surprised you?

The construction industry relies on a lot of IT systems in order to deliver a successful project. I was also very surprised by the range of roles within the industry!

What is the best bit of advice you have for someone looking to move into this role?

There are definitely lots of opportunities available in the industry so it’s worth doing your research on the various roles and seeing if your skills are a good match.
