Van Elle Rail Team Delivers Vital Work Over Easter Bank Holiday

Over the Easter weekend, our Rail team successfully carried out landslip prevention works at Chislet, between Canterbury West and Minster, as part of the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE).

The project involved installing 160 metres of sheet pile wall to stabilise the embankment and cuttings, to prevent the risk of any slope movement.

A total of 244No. sheet piles were installed using on-track plant, including the Colmar T10000FS, Colmar T12000FS, Movax SG60/65 and the BSP impact hammer. This solution was chosen due to specific design requirements and restricted site access.

With varying ground levels across the working area, we adapted our pile driving technique throughout the progression of the wall installation.

All plant and materials were transported approximately one mile from the storage area to the on-tracking location at the level crossing, using our flatbed and HIAB transport wagons.

The works were completed in five days, with the team delivering the project 24 hours ahead of programme, a great demonstration of collaboration, adaptability, and commitment to excellence.

Feedback received from the client was extremely positive: “Van Elle completed the planned works at Chislet without any major safety issues. The behavioural culture was of a good quality. In general, VE completed the works to a high standard and safely without concern.”
