The Rock & Alluvium team recently delivered piling works in support of the new Big Yellow Storage Unit development. The project was successfully completed across three visits, beginning in November 2024 and concluding in June 2025.
Appointed by Galliford Try, the initial phase involved the installation of contiguous wall piles in Area A, followed by the construction of low-level bearing piles. The final phase included additional bearing piles installed across Areas B, C, and D over a seven-week period.
In total, R&A installed a range of CFA piles, including contiguous wall piles of 600mm diameter, bearing piles of 450mm, 250mm, and 400mm diameters, and crane base piles of 600mm.
CFA piling method proved highly effective in managing vibration and ground movement risks while maintaining productivity and precision.
A key challenge for the project was the site’s proximity to a major highway in East London, which required careful logistical planning to avoid disruption to traffic and ensure safe, efficient delivery operations.
Thanks to close collaboration with Galliford Try and other contractors, the piling works were completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality.
