Stoke Road Slope Stabilisation Works, Northamptonshire

Our Specialist Piling team were appointed by PGR Construction Ltd to undertake the Stoke Road Slope Stabilisation project in Blisworth, Northamptonshire. This essential work aimed to prevent landslides and enhance the safety of the surrounding area.

Project Background

  • Appointed by PGR Construction Ltd.
  • The project involved installing 426No. soil nails to depths up to 9.5m along with PVC double twist rockfall protection netting and coir mat underlay.

Challenges

The project presented several challenges, including restricted access due to a full road closure, which limited the movement of equipment and personnel. The team carefully managed site access and scheduling to accommodate the road closure.

The operational environment included a steep slope where the use of our 22-ton excavator required a strict temporary works design to ensure safety and stability. Additionally, the proximity of residential properties, located within just 15 meters of the work site, meant careful planning was required to minimise noise, vibration, and disruption to local residents.

Van Elle Solutions

The project involved the installation of 426No. soil nails, with 320No at 9.5m and 106No at 3.5m depths, along with PVC double twist rockfall protection netting and coir mat underlay.

The team utilised our new Ripamonti EX321 drill mast mounted on a CAT320 excavator. A 32-ton, 19.0-metre long-reach excavator was employed during the final week of the project to effectively reach and install the lower row of soil nails. The project was scheduled for eight weeks, with six weeks allocated for soil nailing and two weeks for meshing.
