Midlands Electrification Schemes

Nottingham to Derby

Strata Geotechnics were appointed as a subcontractor to assist with the design for OLE foundations as part of a key Midlands Electrification scheme.

Project Background

  • The project involved the completion of 156No. windowless samples and dynamic probing to 8mbgl or refusal.
  • The project was completed in six months, finishing ahead of schedule and under budget.

Challenges

The project faced significant challenges with poor access conditions, including steps, tight spaces, and unstable underfoot conditions, which led to the use of premier compact modular for a more efficient installation.

Additionally, short working windows required collaborative planning with the client to ensure smooth execution within the limited timeframe.

Van Elle Solutions

The premier compact modulars design allowed the system to be broken down into smaller parts and rebuilt in position, making it ideal for the areas with tight or poor access.

Additionally, the use of premier modulars eliminated the need for RRVs for lifting, resulting in significant cost savings. The units could be easily manoeuvred using track trolleys and transported in a van, further reducing mobilisation costs and improving overall efficiency.

Recognition

The project received excellent feedback from the client, leading to additional work being secured in subsequent phases. Strong team collaboration played a key role in its success.
