Our Specialist Piling team were recently tasked with executing critical emergency operations as part of Network Rail’s Hague Bar earthworks scheme.
Following urgent ground investigations by Network Rail, engineers identified the need to repair the embankment supporting the railway.
The contiguous pile wall installation involved installing 192No. sectional flight auger (SFA) piles, each with a 600mm diameter up to 10.5 meters deep.
The team utilised our Klemm 709 3G rig to carry out the emergency works.
Despite significant obstacles, including large boulders at the base of the embankment, a narrow time frame, and ongoing embankment slippage, the project was completed 2 days ahead of the planned three-week schedule.
We also contributed to the site’s visual enhancement by contributing to the installation of site hoardings from a local artist that reflected the works going on. We worked closely with the local community to minimise any expected disturbance through daily checks.
Network Rail Site Manager Bradley Burkett commended the effort, saying, “Fantastic work ethic from the team. This successful collaboration highlights Van Elle’s ability to deliver complex projects under demanding circumstances.”
