Track Bed Stabilisation results to be shared at the Intelligent Rail Summit

Results from a series of tests conducted on the rail test track at our Kirkby headquarters will be discussed during the Intelligent Rail Summit in Bilbao, Spain, from 21st September 2021.

The findings will be presented during the three-day summit by Dr. Koohyar Faizi who is one year into a three-year project as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Van Elle, Nottingham Trent University and Innovate UK.

The project, which aims to develop new technology will be used to optimise Van Elle’s Track Bed Stabilisation system to improve safety, make journey times more dependable and reduce maintenance costs.

A series of track bed monitoring tests were conducted on the Van Elle Rail Test Track at our Kirkby headquarters in Nottinghamshire during the first year of the project.

The results show that the Vision-Based (VB) system can be directly employed with high accuracy for the evaluation of track displacement and track stiffness.

The VB system can simultaneously measure the displacement of all components of the trackbed, and detect voiding that occurred between the components to a high degree of accuracy, whilst the typical void meters only measure the total void of the rail (total surface deflection).
