Van Elle’s Ground Improvement team have completed a significant ground improvement package at Indurent Park Newport, currently the largest new-build industrial and logistics development under construction in Wales.
Delivered for Glencar Construction Ltd, the works formed part of a multi-unit scheme across the 100-acre site and involved the installation of rigid inclusions to support pad foundations and ground-bearing floor slabs.
The project, located on the former Llanwern steelworks site, required a foundation solution capable of accommodating variable and complex ground conditions at depths of up to approximately 12 metres.
Rigid inclusions were selected as an efficient and sustainable foundation solution, providing the required performance while supporting programme delivery.
Over a 10-week programme, the team delivered the works across five industrial units while managing site constraints including obstructions from existing piles and buried reinforcement. Productivity was maintained through the deployment of pre-boring rigs operating alongside three rigid inclusion rigs.
Indurent Park Newport forms part of the wider Glan Llyn Regeneration, a 600-acre redevelopment scheme transforming the area into a major commercial and employment hub for South Wales.
Once complete, the development will deliver high-quality Grade-A industrial and logistics space targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+ standards, alongside infrastructure provisions for photovoltaic roof systems and electric vehicle charging.
The co
mpletion of the package marks another milestone for Van Elle, demonstrating its capability in delivering efficient, large-scale ground improvement solutions on complex brownfield sites.
