Van Elle assists in the re-opening of the Dartmoor Line

Following the reopening of the Dartmoor rail line after 49 years, our Rail team reflect on their contribution to the foundation and civils works, through Network Rail’s Project SPEED.

Since July, Van Elle’s specialist rail rigs have been deployed to the line between Oakhampton and Exeter, delivering the foundations to support communications systems on the line.

Telecoms masts up to 25m high and weighing three tonnes each, have been installed – on a mixture of helical piles and grillages and 60 precast 1.5 tonne concrete blocks – to support the use of in-cab radios along the line.

Although there are some final elements of the project left to complete, our customer, Linbrooke, have already passed on their thanks for our hard work, commitment and collaborative approach.
