Van Elle install foundations for bridge abutments for new footbridge in Worcestershire

Piling

Working to support the principal contractor, Alun Griffiths, Van Elle provided piling works for the bridge abutments to support the construction of a footbridge as part of the A4440 Worcester Southern Link Road improvement scheme.

Our experienced rotary piling team mobilised the Soilmec SR-75 to install 117 No. large rotary bored piles to provide the foundations for the new bridge abutments on a challenging site located on the banks of the River Severn.

The piles supported reinforced concrete abutments that provide the base for the single span bridge that measures nearly 60 metres in length over the stretch of water.

Malcolm O’Sullivan, Director of Piling for Van Elle stated,

“We have a unique fleet of in-house rigs capable of dealing with the most challenging of ground conditions and working environments. Our engineers worked closely with the client to ensure the project was completed safely and to the specifications required.”
