Van Elle’s Rail division has led the company’s first Safety Stand Down Day of the year collaboratively with Siemens.

Safety is one of Van Elle’s core values, along with integrity, teamwork and excellence, with the company conducting regular open discussions on the lifesaving topic.

Held at the head office in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, guests from Siemens and Van Elle employees took part in a range of sessions including a Points Operator Briefing.

They were also refreshed on spill kit training, prestart checks and exclusion zones.

David Buckley, Divisional Director for Rail who welcomed guests on the day, said: “The safety of employees is of the upmost importance, which is why it’s always great to have regular open safety conversations with our customers.

“This event also helped to refresh our understanding of lifesaving information, which aims to ensure everyone gets home safe every day.”

Both Van Elle’s and Siemens’ Health and Safety teams joined forces on the day to present their respective health and safety rules.

Stephen Pick, Project Director at Birmingham Siemens Mobility said: “It was a great opportunity to engage with our supply chain and observe the importance they place on the safety message with their workforce.

“Good to see some really open discussions on how to improve safety and ensure the message is understood, that everyone is empowered to stop work if they believe safety is compromised.”

Attendees learnt about both companies health and safety rules.
