Sectional Flight Auger

Sectional flight auger (SFA) piling allows CFA piles of up to 750mm diameter to be installed in a headroom of just 3.75m using a specially-developed rig. Fast, quiet and virtually vibration-free, the method is ideal when working inside buildings and on sites with restricted access.

  • Fast, quiet and virtually vibration-free
  • Allows CFA piles to be installed inside buildings or other low headroom environments
  • No need for casing, bentonite or polymers
  • Cost-effective and versatile technique for most ground conditions

  • Structural foundations
  • Contiguous and secant piled walls
  • Suitable for clay, weak rock and water-bearing sand, gravel and glacial till

SFA piles are constructed using a sectional hollow stemmed auger. Soil travels up the flights to ground level where it is removed by an auger cleaner. Concrete or grout is pumped through the auger’s hollow stem as it is withdrawn, and sections removed, before reinforcement is inserted. Installation is monitored and controlled using on-board instrumentation to ensure quality standards are maintained.

Van Elle can install SFA piles of up to 900mm diameter and 30m deep, using its specialist low headroom Hütte, Klemm and Soilmec rigs
