We are pleased to announce the successful completion of piling works just next to the Port of Nigg, located in the Scottish Highlands for our client, Europlan.
Europlan were appointed to design and build a subsea cable factory by Sumitomo Electric UK (SEUK), who are a pioneers of subsea electric transmission cables.
This important project forms part of the development, which will play a crucial role in strengthening the UK’s electricity transmission grid and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.
The scope of work involved the installation of nearly 2000No. continuous flight auger (CFA) piles of varying diameters and depths. These provided essential foundation support across multiple areas of the site.
Additionally, almost 300No. CFA anti-flotation piles were installed to manage groundwater and uplift forces.
Our Ground Improvement team further strengthened the site by installing around 1,300No. rigid inclusions.
For the project, we used advanced drilling rigs, including the Llamada P135 and Solmec SR95 for CFA piling, and the RTG 19 for the installation of rigid inclusions.
By combining CFA piling and rigid inclusions, we delivered a stable and reliable foundation, ensuring the site’s readiness for its critical role in the renewable energy sector.
Malcolm O’Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer, said: “The completion of this project for Europlan and their client SEUK marks a significant milestone in the development of vital infrastructure for renewable energy. It highlights Van Elle’s expertise in delivering high-quality piling and ground improvement solutions that support the UK’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.”
