Van Elle has successfully delivered the geotechnical solution for Supermax Healthcare’s new UK headquarters. The three-storey facility comprises 1,306 sqm of office space and 4,057 sqm of storage and distribution on a 1.14-hectare site.
Our fully integrated service encompassed design, driven piling, follow-on civil works, and static load testing, providing a seamless, end-to-end geotechnical and foundation solution for our client, FC Construction & Developments Ltd.
A total of 670No. precast driven piles of three types, including 250 mm and 300 mm square piles, were installed to depths of up to 9 m. The 250 mm piles were a mix, reinforced with 6 bar and 4 bar to meet the required loadings, including 388No. piles with enlarged heads to support the slabs.
The project team selected driven precast piles as a cost-efficient and reliable solution to support the building loads.
Enlarged heads beneath the slab areas helped reduce punching shear forces and minimise slab depth. This resulted in a more efficient design in terms of both cost and carbon footprint.
Strata carried out a static load test on a single test pile using 6No. precast anchors. Custom tension heads connected Dywidag bars to the 250 mm square anchors. This created an efficient, cost-effective, and reusable solution that delivered reliable results.
The project team completed the project in six weeks. This included three weeks for the enlarged-head piles, with static load testing confirming performance and quality.
